From the age of four, Mr. Simoes was raised in the Central Valley of California. After completing his education, he chose to return here to reside near his family and to give back to the community that had always supported his education. Since high school, Mr. Simoes strongly believed that the Portuguese community of California was under, or ineffectively, represented by legal counsel because of the language barrier with which many Portuguese immigrants to our valley had to contend.
Born to Portuguese immigrants from the Portuguese Azores Island of Terceira, Mr. Simoes is one of the very few Central Valley attorneys who is fluent in conversational Portuguese, an asset that has come to assist him with his many Portuguese-speaking clients over the years.
Upon graduating from Tulare Union High School, Mr. Simoes immediately began university in Davis, California, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree, with a minor, from the University of California at Davis. From there, Mr. Simoes studied law at, and graduated from, the highly respected Santa Clara University School of Law, located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, with an emphasis on intellectual property, copyright and trademark law. Mr. Simoes is currently an active member of the State Bar of California and is fully licensed to practice law in the State of California.
Although his focus in law school was intellectual property law, even before he was a law student, Mr. Simoes felt a need to give back to his community. While in law school, Mr. Simoes was active in Santa Clara University School of Law’s, “Street Law Program.” The program consisted of teaching weekly classes to high school seniors living in economically disadvantaged areas in and around San Jose, on legal topics relevant to the day-to-day realities of those high school students. In addition, in his final year of law school, Mr. Simoes interned at the East San Jose Community Law Center (now known as the Katharine & George Alexander Community Law Center), providing, under the supervision of attorneys, free legal advice to elderly, and economically and socially disadvantaged members of the San Jose area community. Immediately prior to establishing the SIMOES LAW OFFICE in October of 2011, Mr. Simoes was a senior partner and lead family law attorney for a large and well-respected central valley law firm that served many clients of differing backgrounds and legal needs each year. Although his primary area of practice over the years centered on family law and domestic issues, since establishing his own office, Mr. Simoes' practice has expanded to handle civil actions/civil litigation, business formations, along a variety of other legal matters, such as the preparation of wills and trusts, handling probates of estates, working with complex civil litigation cases and discovery issues, and handling unlawful detainer (eviction) cases for commercial and residential Landlords and some tenants, to name only a few additional areas of practice.
